Just a half-hour drive from the Olympic village is a little taste of home for American, European, Japanese and Turkish Olympians. Sochi’s multicultural Pittsburgh Bar is named after the city of bridges, serves sushi and “European” food that you can enjoy while visiting their “Middle Eastern” hookah bar. Look at you, Russia, covering all your cultural bases. We’re so proud.

There is a Pittsburgh bar in Sochi, Russia. I found it and went to it: @412jasmine @Shop412 @lokay @WTAE @TribLIVE http://t.co/Vqrr5PHGZG

Nestled under an apartment building in a part of Sochi that you’re not likely to see in NBC’s coverage of the Olympics, the bar’s entrance is set in between replicas of Highmark place and PPG place, two of the tallest skyscrapers in Pittsburgh. (The city boasts 29 tall buildings.) Over a white Pittsburgh Bar sign is an arch meant to pay tribute to the West End Bridge. The replicas are as accurate as they are chintzy.

HOW WE KNOW

In monitoring social media posts related to Sochi, we keep an eye on many of the journalists now arriving to cover the games. Getty photographer Jared Wickerham posted the included tweet, which peaked our interest. We dug deeper to find out more about the restaurant/bar (located here), uncovering job postings and more.

The inside looks pretty cozy, but has little to do with real-life Pittsburgh. It is, however, apparently a great place to get a little toasted. One Russian tourist website described the bar thusly: “If you want have a drinking marathon to test how much liquor your best friends can hold, come to this bar which can help you out in that task and bring you good vibes.”

If drinking isn’t your thing, then get out of Russia. Just kidding. After you’ve indulged in either their sushi or “European” menu, you can smoke some Hookah with this welcome lady and her elaborate shisha pipes.

It’s also a great place to work, if you’re browsing the jobs pages while visiting Sochi. Pittsburgh Bar’s chef would agree. “I love my job,” it says on the “About Me” section of his résumé. “I’d come here on a Saturday, and Sunday of course. I would celebrate my birthday here and party all night. Just sleep here, tent and sleeping bag and all.  Though my wife would probably be shocked! Workhorses die from work, but me, I’m an immortal pony!!!”

Immortal ponies? Seriously, who said Sochi wasn’t prepared? This place has everything.
